Gable Shingles

 To install the upper windows, I had to rent an articulated boom lift. Since I had to have expensive tool, I thought it’d be smart to do other things that require lift. Like, painting and cedar shingle install. Here are the results:

Windows

After the roof, installation, I decided to take a hiatus and drive across the country to see my friend Gary. It was difficult to tear myself away from the cabin, but at the same time, I let my tendinitis heal and had a chance to think about the next steps ahead. When I got, back, I was excited to install the windows. I was able to do many of them myself, but I hired Roberto to help me and he was amazing. It was like having an extra pair of hands that I didn’t have to think about directing. They were just always there at the right place at the right time

Roof

 The roof is undoubtedly the hurdle or the "Wednesday" of the cabin progress. It is the spendiest ticket item and largest turning point, with every project or task having a much different feel to it thereafter  

I chose my roofers based on their progress and hard work from a nearby neighbors roof project and I was not disappointed at all.

Jaime, Jefferson, Lorenzo. Every day a pleasure to work beside them with their positive and friendly attitude as well as their diligent and meticulous work ethic. After watching Jaime work in detail, I have been inspired to be a better carpenter.

These guys were hardly fearful of cold or wet weather. Thankfully, or else this roof never would have happened.

Eves

Like the roof, I decided the eaves needed to be done by someone other than me. It is just too far off the ground and quality is critical. I noticed the more uncomfortable I am, the crappier quality work I do.

 I was so stoked to see the eaves installed with the brackets. It really adds personality to the cabin.

 

Front Porch

 I think the front porch is going to be the best room in the house, yet it's the last room to frame in. It was a little tricky, having to balance heavy post next to a 7 foot drop but I got it to work. I also added more of the rafter tail design as well as the tongue in groove ceiling. The deck is cedar. I just couldn't go plastic right of the bat. I am hoping the roof and large overhangs will help extend the wood life.

Drying In + House Wrap

 With the dry summer weather coming to a close, I was fortunate enough to be in a position that I had a roofer hired and they could "dry-in" or add underlayment. We were due for loads of rain and it certainly came.

Roof Sheathing

 While working on the cabin, I was fortunate enough to be approached by a contractor looking for future work. I didn’t need his particular services at that time but he referred me to some framers. Within a day, I was able to set up them up to install the roof sheathing, a job way out of my reach. They were done in 5 hours and passed inspection the following morning. Stoked!
